Why Some Microblading Looks Fake — And How Natural Nanoblading Should Look

One of the most common things I hear from new clients is:

"I love the idea of permanent brows… but I’ve seen some that look really fake."

And honestly, I understand that fear.

Permanent makeup has improved a lot over the years, but many people still remember results from older techniques that looked too dark, too thick, or obviously tattooed.

The goal of modern eyebrow techniques is completely different.

When brows are done correctly, they should look soft, natural, and realistic — like your own brows, just more refined.

Let me explain why some microblading results look unnatural, and what properly done nanoblading should actually look like.

The Biggest Reason Some Microblading Looks Fake

Most of the time, unnatural results are not because of the procedure itself.

They happen because of technique, pigment choice, and design.

Eyebrows are one of the most important features of the face, so they require a lot of precision and artistic judgment.

When those elements are missing, the results can look harsh instead of natural.

1. One-Size-Fits-All Brow Shapes

Your eyebrows should be designed specifically for your face, not copied from a template.

When I design brows for a client, I always consider:

• facial proportions

• bone structure

• natural hair growth pattern

• muscle movement around the brows The goal is to enhance what you already have — not to create a completely different eyebrow.

When brows are designed properly, they should look balanced and natural with your facial features.

2. Pigments That Heal the Wrong Color

Another issue that people sometimes notice with older microblading is brows that heal into blue, gray, or reddish tones.

This usually happens when the wrong pigments are used or when pigment is implanted too deeply in the skin.

Modern pigments are formulated to fade more softly and naturally over time.

Choosing the right pigment tone for each client is extremely important for achieving natural-looking results.

3. Hair Strokes That Are Too Thick

Real eyebrow hairs are very fine.

If the strokes created during the procedure are too thick or too deep, they can look more like scratches in the skin instead of natural hairs.

This is one of the reasons why nanoblading has become such a popular technique.

Why Nanoblading Looks More Natural

Nanoblading allows artists to create very fine, delicate strokes that closely mimic the look of real eyebrow hairs.

When the strokes are placed correctly and blended with your natural brows, the result looks extremely natural.

Most of my clients simply look like they have:

• fuller brows • better shape • improved symmetry

Not like they have makeup or a tattoo on their face.

In fact, many clients tell me that people just assume they were born with great eyebrows.

What Natural Permanent Makeup Should Look Like

My philosophy with permanent makeup has always been simple:

Brows should enhance your natural beauty, not overpower your face.

When nanoblading is done properly, the healed result should look soft and realistic.

The color also heals about 30% lighter than the initial result, which helps create a very natural finish. Choosing the Right Artist Matters If you’re considering microblading or nanoblading, the most important factor is the artist’s experience and technique.

Always look for:

• healed results (not just immediately after photos) • soft and natural strokes • brows that suit each client’s face

Natural-looking permanent makeup requires both technical skill and artistic experience.

Natural Brows Should Still Look Like You

The best compliment my clients receive after nanoblading is when someone says:

"Your eyebrows look amazing… but I can’t tell what you did."

That’s exactly the goal.

Your brows should still look like your brows — just fuller, more balanced, and more defined.
