Lip Blush procedure by Maya Louredo
Micropigmentation
Lip blush is a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure that involves the application of pigment to the lips using a needle, adding natural color and enhancing their appearance. The color can be customized to match your preferences, with options including various shades of pink, red, coral, brownie pink, and much more. This choice is discussed and determined according to the client's expectations and preferences (only for pale lips).
This procedure is perfect for giving your lips a natural boost of color, highlighting their shape, and correcting minor asymmetry. The process takes approximately 2 hours, with a pre-numbing cream applied to ensure your comfort throughout the session.
A follow-up session may be required after 30 days to refine the results, but this is not mandatory and varies from client to client. The results typically last between 13 to 20 months, depending on factors such as aftercare, skin type, and lifestyle. Additionally, all necessary aftercare products will be provided for the healing process.

LIP BLUSH HEALING The healing process for lip blush typically unfolds over a few weeks, with the following stages: 1. Day 1-2 (Immediate Post-Procedure): Lips will appear much darker and more intense in color than the final result. Some swelling and tenderness are normal. You’ll need to avoid touching the lips and keep them clean. 2. Day 3-4 (Peeling Stage): The color may begin to flake or peel. Do not pick at the peeling skin, as this can cause uneven healing. During this stage, the lips may feel dry and tight, and applying the recommended healing ointment is crucial. 3. Day 5-7 (Fading Phase): After peeling, the lips will appear significantly lighter, and the color may seem like it’s disappearing. This is a normal part of the healing process, as the color will resurface once fully healed. 4. Week 2-4 (Color Returns): The color gradually reappears but will still be lighter than immediately after the procedure. Lips may continue to heal internally, so full results are not seen until 4-6 weeks after the procedure. 5. Follow-Up: A touch-up session might be required around 4-6 weeks post-procedure to perfect the color and shape. Some clients may need only one touch-up, while others might require an additional session.
LIP BLUSH AFTERCARE Aftercare: Gently clean the lips with a damp cotton pad or as advised. Apply the healing ointment as directed to prevent dryness and aid in healing. Avoid spicy foods, excessive sweating, direct sunlight, and makeup on the lips during the first few days. Avoid picking or peeling the lips. By the end of the healing period, the final lip color will be softer, more natural, and fully settled. Results typically last 13-20 months depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.
LIP BLUSH FOR CLIENTS WITH COLD SORE HISTORY For clients with a history of cold sores (herpes simplex), the lip blush procedure can potentially trigger an outbreak due to the trauma to the lip area. To minimize this risk, it’s important to take preventive measures: Instructions for Clients with a History of Herpes: Consultation with a Doctor : Before undergoing the lip blush procedure, consult with your doctor for advice and to request an antiviral medication prescription, such as acyclovir or valacyclovir. Antiviral Medication: Begin taking the prescribed antiviral medication at least 2 days before the procedure and continue for at least 5-7 days post-procedure. This helps prevent a cold sore outbreak during the healing process. If an Outbreak Occurs: If a cold sore develops, keep the area clean and apply any recommended antiviral cream. Inform your technician immediately if a breakout happens, as this can affect the healing process and color retention. Aftercare for Herpes-Prone Clients: Follow standard aftercare procedures, including applying healing ointment and keeping the lips clean. Avoid touching the lips and refrain from any activities that might increase the risk of infection or irritation (such as sun exposure, swimming, or using makeup on the lips). Taking these precautions significantly reduces the chance of an outbreak, allowing for smooth healing and better color retention.
LIP BLUSH CONTRAINDICATION 1. Pregnancy or Breastfeeding: Due to hormonal changes, skin may be more sensitive, and healing could be unpredictable. It’s recommended to wait until after pregnancy and breastfeeding. 2. Active Herpes (Cold Sores): If you have an active outbreak of herpes simplex (cold sores), the procedure should be postponed. It’s essential to take antiviral medication if you have a history of cold sores (as instructed by your doctor). 3. Diabetes (Uncontrolled): Clients with uncontrolled diabetes may experience slower healing, increasing the risk of infection. Consult with a doctor before proceeding. 4. Blood Disorders or Clotting Issues: If you have conditions like hemophilia or take blood-thinning medication, consult your doctor, as these can increase the risk of excessive bleeding and slow healing. 5. Autoimmune Diseases: Conditions such as lupus or other immune system disorders can affect healing and pigment retention. Ensure that your condition is well-managed and cleared by a doctor. 6. Skin Conditions or Irritations: If there are any active infections, rashes, or open wounds around the lips, the procedure should be delayed until the skin has healed. 7. Accutane or Retin-A Usage: Clients using Accutane (isotretinoin) or strong retinoids should avoid the procedure for at least 6 months post-treatment, as it thins the skin and affects healing. 8. Keloid Scarring: If you are prone to keloid scars, lip blush might not be suitable for you, as the skin may over-heal and create raised scars. 9. Allergic Reactions to Pigments: If you have a history of allergic reactions to pigments or tattoo inks, a patch test is necessary before the procedure to ensure safety. 10. Recent Chemical Peels or Laser Treatments: Avoid lip blush if you have had recent chemical peels, laser treatments, or fillers in the lip area within the last 4 weeks, as this may affect healing and pigment retention. 11. Blood-Borne Diseases: Clients with hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, or other blood-borne diseases may have compromised immune systems, so medical clearance is necessary. 12. Cancer Treatments (Chemotherapy/Radiation): Clients undergoing cancer treatments should wait until after completing therapy and receiving clearance from their doctor, as these treatments can slow healing. Always consult your technician about any health concerns before proceeding with lip blush. oblading.
