Why I Sometimes Refuse Nanoblading Clients

As a permanent makeup artist, one of the most important parts of my job is knowing when to say yes — and when to say no.

Nanoblading can create beautiful, soft, natural-looking brows when it is done on the right skin, with the right expectations, and for the right candidate. But it is not the best technique for every person.

And sometimes, the most professional thing I can do is refuse to perform nanoblading.

Nanoblading Is Not One-Size-Fits-All

Nanoblading is a delicate eyebrow technique designed to create fine, realistic hair strokes. The goal is to enhance the brows in a soft and natural way, not to create a heavy or overly filled-in look.

However, for the strokes to heal beautifully, several factors matter:

  • Skin type

  • Skin texture

  • Existing brow hair

  • Previous permanent makeup

  • Lifestyle

  • Healing history

  • Client expectations

If these factors are not ideal, nanoblading may not heal the way the client is hoping.

When I May Not Recommend Nanoblading

There are situations where I may recommend a different technique instead of nanoblading, such as powder brows or combination brows.

For example, if the skin is very oily, textured, mature, or has large pores, fine hair strokes may blur, fade unevenly, or not stay crisp after healing.

If someone wants a very filled-in makeup look, nanoblading alone may also not be the best choice.

In these cases, saying “yes” just to book the appointment would not be honest.

Previous Permanent Makeup Matters

Another reason I may refuse or postpone nanoblading is when a client comes in with previous work done by another artist and there is still visible pigment in the brows.

Even if the old work has faded, remaining pigment can affect the final result. Nanoblading creates fine hair strokes, and those strokes need clean enough skin to heal naturally and visibly. If there is still too much old pigment, the new strokes may not show properly, may blend into the old color, or may create a result that looks heavier than intended.

In some cases, the best decision is to wait longer and allow the old pigment to fade more before doing a new procedure. Other times, removal or a different technique may be a better option.

This is not about criticizing another artist’s work. It is about protecting the final healed result and making sure the next step actually benefits the client.

My goal is never to simply add more pigment on top of old pigment. My goal is to create brows that heal beautifully, look balanced, and age well over time.

My Priority Is the Healed Result

Fresh brows are not the final result.

Immediately after the procedure, brows always look darker, sharper, and more defined. But true artistry is revealed after healing.

My priority is not just how your brows look on the day of the appointment. My priority is how they heal, how they age, and how naturally they blend with your face over time.

That is why I take the consultation process seriously.

Sometimes “No” Means I’m Protecting Your Result

If I tell a client that nanoblading is not the best option, it does not mean they cannot have beautiful brows.

It simply means another technique may give them a better healed result.

Powder brows can be a better option for clients who need more softness, coverage, or a makeup effect. Combination brows can be ideal for someone who wants both hair strokes and shading for more definition.

The right technique depends on the person — not on what is trending online.

A Professional Artist Should Guide You

Permanent makeup is an investment in your face. It should be customized, thoughtful, and honest.

At Maya Louredo Beauty, I do not believe in forcing one technique on every client. I evaluate your natural brows, skin, previous work, goals, and long-term results before deciding what is best.

Sometimes that means nanoblading.

Sometimes it means powder brows.

Sometimes it means combination brows.

And sometimes, it means waiting, allowing old pigment to fade more, correcting previous work first, or choosing a completely different approach.

Final Thoughts

Refusing a nanoblading client is not about being difficult. It is about being responsible.

My goal is always to create brows that look natural, balanced, and beautiful after healing — not just immediately after the procedure.

If you are unsure which brow technique is right for you, a consultation is the best place to start.

At Maya Louredo Beauty in Sandy Springs, Georgia, every brow procedure is customized to your skin, facial structure, natural brow hair, and desired result.

Your brows deserve more than a trend. They deserve the right technique.
